Site Health, Safety & Environment Manager
Hours of work: Monday – Friday (37.5 hours)  with flexibility available on hours of work

Premier Foods, Ashford are looking for a Health & Safety professional to join their team in Ashford. 

 

The role is a leading Health Safety role, responsible for the overall site H&S agenda, developing and delivering on the site H&S plans and ensuring that the site complies with all H&S legislation of the Premier Foods Standards. The role will oversee the Site’s Environmental strategy and provide a vision of the site plans in line with the group ESG plans. Reporting to the site’s Factory Manager, the role will involve coaching and guiding our site management on Health & Safety related matters. 

 

Principle Responsibilities

  • Determine the strategic direction and work priorities (in conjunction with business plans) for the continuous improvement of the site’s SHE management programme and systems
  • Advise line management and assists with the implementation of new or existing SHE-related legislation, rules and Company standards to include fire prevention, health and safety awareness training, site inspections of Company and contractors to site
  • Develop and lead site wide initiatives to embed behavioural safety and best practice approaches
  • Oversee and guide Environmental Manager on delivery of the environmental agenda 
  • Advise line management in Factories, Office and on Site of health and safety and manage this process to ensure all advice is incorporated into day-to-day processes and operations.
  • Oversee the TOP’s process – conduct and record visits and actions, completion of reviews and site / central reporting
  • Manage and update the site duty manager matrix, ensure personal and individuals responsibilities are understood
  • Lead and co-ordinate site processes, ALARP, PUWER, RA’s, MS’s and COSHH, ensuring compliance and providing advice, training and support 
  • Facilitate all forms of risk assessment e.g. general, manual handling, COSHH, fire prevention and acts as a final authority where a specialist response is required in relation to risk assessments performed by others on site.
  • Maintain contact with HSE, Premier Group Health & Safety and relevant bodies as appropriate 
  • Coordinate site responses and action following ‘cross check’ requests
  • Provide support and expertise to line management in incident investigation and reporting (including dangerous occurrences and occupational diseases).
  • Trend accidents, incidents and near misses providing insight and prevention opportunities 
  • Conduct occupational health and safety related surveys e.g. noise, lighting, exposure to chemical substances and makes associated recommendations
  • Oversee the site Contractor Database – including approval of Contracting companies, monitoring adherence to site Contractor rules, producing monthly performance report
  • Oversee the face fit testing process and record test results working with the Occupational Health Advisor
  • Oversee monitoring of Permits to Work on a daily basis and recording results on the Google Permit file 
  • Address and respond to any claims

 
Site Safety and Environment Culture

  • Deliver safety programmes that engage colleagues to engage with the right H&S behaviours in line with the business and operations strategy
  • Coach and support Environmental Manager to deliver environmental programmes for the site in line with the business and operations strategy
  • Coach management to delivery on the H&S and Environmental commitments
  • Develop a monthly SHE Communication Strategy in conjunction with the Environmental Manager for the site and all levels of staff, to include written information, tool box talks and management briefs liaising with production teams, safety representatives to encourage safety and environmental culture across the site – Champion sponsorship, TOP’s as necessary
  • Provide advice on potential risks and work with operations to find opportunities to mitigate those

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will have atleast 3 years' experience in a similar SHE role with Line management experience

Essential:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or National General Certificate

Desirable:

  • NEBOSH Fire Prevention and Risk Management Certificate
  • Environmental Management Systems Qualification 
  • General Management Qualification 
  • Graduate IOSH Status or CMIOSH status COSH 
  • Principles of CDM / ATEX/ DSEAR– working knowledge
