We are recruiting for a Site Services & Utilities Manager to join our Ambrosia Creamery in Lifton.  The Services & Utilities Manager is responsible for an area which encompasses the supply of energy, water, compressed air, chiller plant and effluent treatment to our 24/7 food manufacturing factory. 


Leading the Utilities team, you will help to set the site energy strategy, and ensure there is an effective maintenance plan in place to ensure reliability of assets. Additionally, you will also be a part of significant engineering and environmental projects connected to your function.


What you'll be doing:

  • Ensure that standards and procedures are in place and updated to govern all engineering activities on site including safe working practices, high GMP standards, management of contractors, planned maintenance work and assessment of competencies of utilities employees
  • Communicate effectively with the operations and engineering teams to ensure daily and weekly priorities are clear and that issues are discussed to prevent downtime, loss, and cost, ensuring that any unsolved problems are communicated or escalated
  • Positive management of supplier relationships to ensure excellent partnership working
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and moral requirements in respect of Safety, Quality and Environmental compliance
  • Recruit, lead and motivate employees as a first line manager via coaching, regular appraisal mentoring, training, and leadership-by-example, with direct responsibility for a named group of employees
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a strategy so that the Utilities function is effective, efficient, to budget, managed, well-motivated, flexible, and able to adapt to changing production circumstances
  • Create, implement, and manage Utilities and maintenance budgets for the area, to achieve area and site targets
  • With the site management team, ensure that the productive capability of the plant is optimised and improved for the needs of the business, this includes the provision and use of utilities (Steam, water, electricity, compressed air, effluent treatment and site chillers)


What we need from you:

  • An understanding of boiler operations is essential to the role, along with knowledge of effluent plant operations
  • Experience of managing a team is essential
  • Proven experience of Continuous Improvement or Lean Management would be highly beneficial
  • Experience as a time-served engineer would be desirable
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills
