Application Developer - Team Lead

Based in Manchester with flexibility to work from home

 

Purpose:

The Application Development Lead has sole responsibility for architectural philosophy and development direction of internal applications on our React / NodeJS platform. Working with more junior members of the team to analyse the business need, plan and execute development, support testing cycles, and taking part in the overall management of projects to bring successful code changes into production.

The Application Development Lead will directly line manage members of the two halves of the team, one which is focussed on internal application development, and the other focussed on public facing websites. Mentoring, personal development planning, and day-to-day management skills are all required.

 

The busy development team currently use an internally developed workflow engine and UI to deliver 30+ business process applications which must be supported, improved, and altered to ensure they continue to meet the needs of our internal customers.

 

All application developers within the team are Analyst-Programmers, so the Application Development Lead must be able to lead and mentor junior staff with necessary soft skills and be primary Project Manager for IT led Projects.

Management and technical lead of the public web development team is also required, this team consists of internal web analysts and project management, but all development is outsourced to a strategic partner.

 

What you'll be doing:

 

  • To regularly and proactively create and improve internal applications and public facing websites delivered by the Team.
  • To work with internal and external parties as required, ensuring Premier processes and standards are adhered to regarding Development and Support of the Applications and AWS based Toolchain.
  • Participate and support in code reviews as part of the “pull request” process
  • Develop and maintain documentation and processes to ensure a smooth pipeline of deliverables. 
  • Prepare and provide status updates of assigned project plans and schedules.
  • To provide on-going second line support for applications and holiday/sickness cover for others within the team.

What we need from you:

 

  • Full stack JavaScript development (Typescript / NodeJs / Express / React)
  • Strong skills in MongoDB (NoSQL) databases.
  • Well versed in HTML5, CSS3 using pre-processer, Bootstrap and other front-end technologies.
  • Dev-ops experience -Unit & functional test automation and delivery via CI/CD Orchestration Tools (Git and Jenkins).
  • Experience delivering highly configurable Workflow applications
  • Strong Business Analysis and Customer Service / Relationship management skills.
  • Good time management, decision making, presentation, organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work and manage effectively with diverse teams in remote locations.
  • Agile approach to delivery.
  • Ability to drive through solutions and work with colleagues and support partners to achieve challenging timescales.
  • Problem solver (error detection, correction and root cause analysis)
  • Previous exposure to IBM xPages development a bonus but not required
