Marketing and Innovation Manager - Foodservice

Based in St Albans/Hybrid WFH

 

Purpose:

  • Premier Foods is a business with great momentum and ambitious plans to accelerate growth across brands and sectors.
  • We are looking for a talented individual to lead the marketing and innovation pipeline for our Foodservice business.
  • This is a unique role within the business, with broad scope across Premier’s iconic brands and priority categories including Flavours and Seasonings (Bisto, Oxo), Desserts (Angel Delight, Ambrosia, Bird’s, McDougalls), Cooking Sauces (Sharwood’s, Homepride) and Quick Meals (Batchelors).
  • Premier is a well-established player in the Foodservice sector today with a stronghold in Healthcare & Education and emerging strengths in HORECA and Vending sectors. It’s a channel where we see significant headroom for step-change growth. You will be responsible for setting the growth strategy, developing a pipeline of Big Bet innovation, and ensuring we have strong plans to sustain our core.
  • You’ll be part of the wider Premier Foods Foodservice channel team, including a talented Brand Manager (your direct report), a Channel Marketing Manager (specialising in trade comms) and a large Sales team covering different profit- and non-profit sectors.
  • You will partner closely with the core Grocery marketing & innovation teams in each category, but will take ownership for leading those brands within the Foodservice channel.
  • In developing a strong innovation pipeline, you’ll lead projects with a wider cross-functional team that spans R&D, Project Management, Commercial Planning, and Finance.
  • This role would be perfect for somebody with a high level of ownership and autonomy, strong leadership and strategic thinking skills, commercial awareness, an ability to build relationships and rapport with a diverse set of stakeholders, and experience of the Foodservice channel and developing innovation.

 

What you'll be doing:

  • Take accountability for P&L, Innovation and market share delivery for all Premier Foods brands within the Foodservice channel.
  • Own the long-term strategic growth plan for Premier’s brands in each key Foodservice category. Translate this into “Winning Plans” for each financial year.
  • Lead development and execution of a strong Innovation pipeline of Big Bets for each core category within the channel.
  • Lead renovation of our Core ranges where necessary via product enhancements, upgrades & extensions – with a particular focus on ensuring our range meets allergen and ESG expectations of the channels we serve.
  • Work closely with Foodservice sales teams to build and execute strong plans for your brands, influencing Wholesale listings and uptake with key End Users.
  • Coach and support a direct report (Brand Manager) to deliver key elements of the overall strategic plan.
  • Be a true channel expert within the business, helping wider teams understand key needs of End Users, staying on top of the competitive landscape and emerging trends, and analysing in-market performance to diagnose key issues and opportunities.
  • Play a key role in management reviews across the business cycle, including in-year business performance reviews, quarterly strategic reviews and annual business planning.
  • Form strong connections cross-functionally within the business, in particular with the Foodservice Sales team, R&D, Commercial Planning.
  • Be an active member of the wider Premier Foods Marketing community, supporting peers and coaching junior team members

 

What we need from you:

  • 7+ years successful experience within a leading FMCG or other brand-led organisation.
  • Experience of the Foodservice channel or similar Business-to-Business channel environments, and an understanding of how the needs of these channels differ from core Grocery.
  • Experience designing and delivering Big Bet Innovation projects to market, with a track record of success.
  • Experience developing brand growth strategies combining analysis of market data, consumer/end-user requirements, competitive landscape and emerging trends to establish a prioritised action plan.
  • Ability to deliver multiple projects to market at pace, handling the complexity of a large business with multiple stakeholders and a wide cross-category remit.
  • Strong commercial and analytical skills; comfortable digging under the surface to uncover insights, reach logical conclusions and recommend actions back to the business in a compelling way.
  • Strong bias for action, a high degree of personal accountability and an entrepreneurial spirit.
