Strategic Innovation Manager

9 - 12 month FTC

St Albans based but flexibility to work from home.



  • We are looking for a talented individual to work on an exciting innovation project targeting white space expansion for Premier Foods 

  • Targeting a £100m+ demand space that is in rapid growth, the goal is to create a scalable new brand / product proposition which leverages Premier’s food expertise to meet new consumer needs and reach a new audience and new consumption occasions.  

  • Proposition and product range development, brand creation, route to market identification and business model creation and are all in scope for this role, providing an opportunity to effectively create an entrepreneurial ‘start up’ brand within a business of the scale of Premier Foods. 

  • This ‘start-up’ mentality will be reflected in the development approach – adopting and developing a test and learn, rapid recycling model in contrast to Premier’s more traditional approach with our established categories. 


  • You will be the project owner, collaborating closely with R&D and drawing on cross-functional resources from the wider Premier team as needed, as well as taking key stakeholders with you on the journey. 

  • You will be responsible for leading the project from the initial groundwork already in place, through rounds of rapid recycling development, refining all aspects of the consumer brand proposition, initial launch product range, go to market strategy and business case. 

  • You will pioneer the ‘test and learn’ development approach for Premier, collaborating with the Insight team to ensure the project moves forward with robust consumer-led insight as the foundation of the business case. 

  • You will challenge Premier’s current ways of working, processes and sales models to deliver the project to market in as short a time as feasibly possible and via the most appropriate routes to market.  

  • This role will reward an entrepreneurial individual looking to harness their brand building, innovation and commercial leadership skills on a ‘startup’ brand, with a mission to unlock disruptive growth with a within a bigger FMCG company. 


  • The right candidate will be a proven entrepreneur, able to demonstrate business and brand development, with a strong marketing and commercial skillset and a track record of results. You will have a passion for shaping the future and ‘breaking the mould’ and will be extremely agile and comfortable going beyond your comfort zone (and taking stakeholders there with you!). You will be competent analysing and deriving insights from different sources of consumer and retail data, able to demonstrate strategic thinking and be adept at influencing decision making at a senior level. You will be externally focused with both consumers and retailers and have a passion for creating new ideas and bringing them to life. You will be a strong team leader, able to influence and collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders to achieve success. to deliver an ambitious vision for this brand. 


What you'll be doing:

  • Single mindedly drive development of this project, leading all aspects of the marketing and commercial mix to deliver results to market within a 6 -9 month horizon.  

  • Develop longer term brand and product pipeline vision for the project, demonstrating it’s 3-5 year growth potential. 

  • Work in partnership with Insights, R&D, Premier Sites and 3rd Party manufacturers to develop, validate and deliver the initial launch range successfully to market. 

  • Work in partnership with Finance and the Commercial Sales team to develop the go to market strategy and deliver the launch   

  • Manage key stakeholder relationships, build and gain agreement to the business case underpinning this launch. 

  • Develop and execute the consumer and shopper-facing execution for this project, ensuring this cuts through the clutter and helps build both short-term sales and longer term equity. 

  • Develop and embed the key performance indicators for the launch in-market performance and consumer health metrics. 

  • Establish strong relationships cross-functionally within the business, in particular with R&D, Insights, Operations, Procurement, Finance, Category Management, Commercial Planning and Sales Leadership to enable you to get the best out of Premier’s existing scale and resources. 


What we need from you:

  • 6+ years experience with time spent within a ‘start up’ business and demonstrable success in delivering new brand or product propositions disruptively into the market. 

  • Strong bias for action and agility in getting things done, with a high level of personal accountability. 

  • An instinctive and strategic marketer, who ‘gets’ consumers and places them at the core of everything that they do. 

  • A track record of developing new brand positioning and executing effectively against this throughout the marketing mix, ideally with some ‘blue chip’ grounding in brand development. 

  • A commercially and analytically aware individual, who is comfortable developing and presenting business cases in an organisation which makes investment decisions on the back of robust data-based recommendations. 

  • An individual who consistently gets the best out others with a collaborative and inclusive style
