R&D Facilities Engineer

Based in Worksop

Mon - Fri - 0700 - 1500

 

Purpose:

Day to day management of R&D pilot plant, which includes equipment maintenance and set up, scheduling trials, training developers to use equipment, inventory control, hygiene and housekeeping and sourcing of any new proposed equipment.  The role also covers building & facilities maintenance, tracking costs for all maintenance and utilities, making recommendations, and implementing continuous improvements.

  • Material Inventory –equipment and consumables
  • Health & Safety – risk assessments
  • Process equipment innovation support
  • Pilot plant and building maintenance contractor management

 

Responsibilities

  • Purchase of maintenance spares, specialist servicing and equipment within a defined budget.
  • No disruption to R&D development activities due to maintenance programme.
  • Effective record keeping of maintenance activities and spend for audit purposes.
  • All new building equipment installations comply with current standards and procedures.
  • All work managed in accordance with the permit to work scheme, and all contractors adhere to current working practices within Premier Foods (including the provision of thorough risk assessments and method statements, full compliance with site hygiene rules).
  • Ensure all equipment meets specified hygiene parameters prior to use. No disruption to R&D development activities due to equipment hygiene problems.
  • All cleaning chemicals purchased are effective, suitable for food equipment use, and have up to date COSHH documentation available to users.
  • All equipment users are trained on equipment, equipment changes, chemical handling and CIP procedures.
  • Training is documented and updated on a training matrix.
  • Safety figures are reported to Worksop site safety co-ordinator to required timescale. All Worksop site safety committee recommendations and instructions are implemented.
  • Accident investigations are carried out after incidents within R&D and resulting improvements to safe working practices are undertaken.
  • Safe ways of working are promoted and documented, including machinery risk assessments and one-point lessons.
  • Provision and recording of safety training of development teams on machinery usage.  Availability of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Identification of modifications to existing equipment to make products not currently possible with the existing configuration.
  • Identification of new equipment for R&D research work.
  • Accurate and timely provision of information for capital proposals for new equipment and equipment modifications.
  • Effective and timely installation of new equipment, without delay caused to R&D development activities.
  • Support other pilot plant facilities in trouble shooting and planned maintenance.

 

What we need from you:

  • Certified Qualifications in Electrical Engineering e.g. IMEMME (Hons) or HND equivalent.
  • Up to date knowledge of current legislation and HSE working practices.
  • Current and valid UK drivers licence
  • Min. 5 year
  • Ability to think analytically and problem solve.
  • Reasonable mathematical competence.
  • Computer literate with good knowledge with Microsoft office packages.
  • Good ability to communicate effectively up and down the organisation.
  • Prepared to travel and work flexible hours.s in FMCG environment
  • Preferably a previous role in food manufacturing electrical engineering
  • Multi skilled engineer experienced in manufacturing plants to include day to day running, maintenance and the sourcing and installation of new equipment, spares and services.
