International Category Manager

Full time, permanent

Role purpose:

This role will be focussed on supporting and developing category-centric expertise internally with Sales, Marketing & Innovation teams, and externally with Key Australian Retailers. The aim is to find ways of encouraging growth of each of the categories that Premier operates in, ensuring that growth benefits both Retailer and Premier Foods, whilst putting focus on the Shopper & Consumer.  A key part of the role will be to help Premier Foods and Retailers develop new category opportunities within our current portfolio and support the identification of opportunities for new Category entry.

 

What you'll be doing:

 

  • Customer
    • Win in Range Reviews.  Increase both Distribution, and Sales per Point of Distribution in Key Retailers along with shelf space and position.  Drive Premier business by Protecting and building core along with building distribution for New Products.
    • Manage Category relationships in Key Retailers to win at fixture.  Developing these relationships and providing category support as part of our wider business relationship, or, to support Premier Foods initiatives (e.g. NPD, range extension, mix initiatives around portfolio management, promotions & price optimisation, merchandising, new category development, job buys)
    • Attendance at Key Retailer meetings to bring insights and recommendations as part of the wider Account Management Team.
    • Provision of periodic category, shopper & market insights as regular service-provision requirements and for key range-review cycles, or other in store initiatives.

 

  • Category & Market Development
    • Provision of data, insights & expertise to help Australian Team and wider International SBU strategy formulation, new Category entry, or deepening of market penetration in existing Categories.
    • Provision of timely insights & KPI tracking from Data partners to support business cycles, Exec meetings, Sales, Supply Chain and overall information flow.
    • Use of Best Practice and indicative data from the UK and around the world to draw conclusions and support key in market decisions.
    • Manage the relationship of and budget for Australian in market insight agency partners and retailer portals, e.g. IRI, Quantium.

 

  • Internal
    • Be the voice of the Australian Retailer in internal commercial decision making to ensure our plans have all the required inputs.  Working closely with Sales, Marketing & Finance to help shape thinking.
    • Development of range, space and merchandising expertise to support Premier Foods trade engagement, initiative sell-in, or to support Sales & Marketing.
    • Provision of insights and action plans for Channel & Market specifics, and/or mix dynamics – such as price & promotions and category & brand performance.
    • Periodic review of objectives and outcomes of key activities across shopper marketing execution, to measure category benefit or ROI and recommendations for future campaigns.
    • Support in strategic / category vision work (e.g. new category entry).
    • Support in market team on Commercial Execution insights, e.g. Promotions
    • Working with Grocery and Sweet Treats within UK BU to share best practice and keep up to date with tools and techniques.

 

What we need from you:

  • Graduate-level education with 5+ years’ experience
    • Essential: Minimum 3 Years’ Experience in Category Management & Sales / Commercial Planning
    • Desirable: Shopper Marketing / Consumer Insights
  • Demonstrable experience in a selection of the following:
    • driving profitable growth around range reviews
    • new product launches
    • Business Planning support
    • merchandising and/or mix management
  • Competencies & core skills:
    • Commercial Awareness - aware of the consequences of actions and decisions, understanding the impact of category decisions on performance.
    • Data Skill – Understanding how to analyse and interpret data to develop concise insights to turn into compelling stories.
    • High numeracy with strong analytical skills, expertise in excel, PowerPoint and ability to use insight software & databases.
    • Ability to compare, process and represent multiple perspectives be it Retailer, Category, Supplier, or Consumer and present as a coherent story.
    • Ability to work flexibly and efficiently across multiple agendas in different time zones.
